Project Details:

The Candle and Rose ceremony represents tradition: the Dominican tradition of Caritas (charity) and Veritas (truth) sins 1928. As in-person public events began to open back up in the spring of 2021 the university began looking for iconography they could place on a mask for the event to comply with new Covid-19 guidelines. The University wanted the masks to represent the strength of Dominican throughout these uncertain times. I opted to showcase the rose which signifies charity within the Dominican community which many students relied on during the pandemic. It all lead to a more symbolic moment as the candle, signifying truth, lit up the faces and masks of the graduating class.
